This is the virtual, digital, online portfolio of contemporary multi-media Fine Artist Maimuna Adam from Mozambique.

books, objects and memories

Maimuna Adam’s work focuses on personal and historical narratives related to the act of travelling. She makes use of materials such as coffee, ink, banana fibre paper, charcoal, acrylic paint, canvas and books to explore notions of identity and memory in relation to mixed origins and histories. The artist makes reference to fictional and real narratives, questioning the role of images and objects in relation to memory and the act of re-membering events that relate in a personal and universal way.

09.2017 Hangar 180 Artistas ao Sul Residency, Lisbon pt1

I Or: “Porque não me vês dançar Marrabenta?”

Being invited by Monica de Miranda and Bruno Leitão from Hangar to take part in the 180º Artistas ao Sul (180 Artists of the South) residency in Graça, Lisbon, meant an opportunity to spend time in Lisbon researching, exploring and creating new work. Spending time in Lisbon meant trying to understand myself, history and personal stories, always with a personal and internal reference of personal experience of Mozambique.
